Membership
Membership in the local chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.
Selection of Members
To be eligible for membership candidates must be members of the sophomore, junior, or senior classes. Freshmen are not eligible. Candidates must have been in attendance at Lowell High School the equivalent of one trimester.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.9, 3.75, and 3.5 respectively to be eligible for academic consideration. In addition, all students who apply for National Honor Society must have a minimum number of cumulative service hours. For sophomores, the number of hours must total 40 or more. For juniors and seniors, the hours must total 75 hours or more. All academically eligible students will receive an official letter in the mail on Lowell High School letterhead with an application enclosed for them to fill out and return to the National Honor Society advisor. Deadlines for submitting the necessary paperwork will be included in the letter of invitation--all deadlines are strictly enforced.
The selection of members will be by a majority vote of the Faculty Council. Prior to the notification of any candidates, the chapter advisor shall review with the principal the results of the Faculty Council's deliberations.
All prospective candidates will be notified by mail of their membership.
